WHAT IS PLEX-R ?
PLEX-R is a treatment for loose skin on the eyelids.
Eyes are so important – they can light up a face and really give it character. When the eyelids begin to droop they can make the eyes look tired and the person older than their years. Surgical blepharoplasty is not necessarily the solution.
PLEX-R is a gentler, non-surgical technique that can help to reduce the amount of extra skin on the upper eyelid.
When the eyelids begin to droop it is usually associated with a slackening (or ptosis) of the skin around the eyes. The doctor will examine each case – there may be three options available:
- no treatment if the ptosis is barely visible
- a surgical blepharoplasty if the patient would like a radical solution – incisions are made in the eyelid crease under general anesthetic and the excess skin removed
- a non-surgical blepharoplasty using PLEX-R when the patient prefers to make more gradual changes (3-4 sessions, a month apart) with minimal side effects (or none) depending on the individual.
→ The PLEX-R method has been used in Italy over the last 10 years and has been perfected in France since 2012 in line with specific guidelines.
The main advantages are the simplicity of the treatment and the fact that it can be repeated in the future with no problem.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PLEX-R WORKSHOP?
For the comfort of the patient a local anaesthetic is usually applied (a topical cream) about one hour before the treatment – the PLEX-R makes tiny “combustion” dots close together in the skin and stimulates an instant but painless contraction of the skin being treated. There is no scarring or bleeding, unlike with a surgical blepharoplasty.
Results can be seen after about a month with each subsequent session increasing the “lift” effect by a further 0.5-1.0 mm each time.
After 3 to 4 sessions, the eyes will look less tired and the eyelids more toned but your look will still be natural.
