BLEPHAROPLASTY – WHAT IS IT ?
Blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation is a cosmetic surgery procedure to correct some of the problems that can arise on the eyelids or in the area under the eyes.
→ Eyelids are designed to keep foreign bodies out of the eyes and to help retain their moisture.
With age and due to environmental or genetic factors, the skin around the eyes tends to sag, having an impact on their appearance- sometimes vision is even impaired.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE?
This is the most sought-after of rejuvenating facial procedures. The aim is to remove any excess skin or bags under the eyes and to correct sagging eyelids or the “sunken” eye look. The actual quality of the surgery will have a direct impact on the amount of “sparkle” put back into the eye and by implication the overall radiance of the face. During the procedure it is vital to be conservative and to remove only a moderate amount of skin or fatty tissue in order to preserve that “lively”, more wide-eyed look so characteristic of youthful eyes.
Fat injection is usually recommended for sunken eyes but can also play a part in improving dark circles under the eyes or the ridge between the eye and the cheek.
The resection of fat (lipectomy) is most often used in the case of bulging or “goggle” eyes.
